Manufacturing FPDs (flat panel displays) such as LCDs (liquid crystal displays) must be performed under stringent clean-room conditions. As a result, the manufacturing systems used must fulfill specific requirements, such as extremely low breakage rates, since the airborne particles resulting from glass breaking during handling would contaminate the clean-room environment for a long period of time, causing production to come grinding to a halt. That’s why the unique selling propositions of Manz’s solutions are their comparatively low breakage rate and their high throughput speed.

Besides the stringent requirements with regard to clean-room conditions and breakage rates, the substrate sizes used in FPD manufacturing of up to 6 m² at a maximum thickness of 0.7 mm make it impossible to handle the substrates manually.
